Ratoong wants to be everything you hope and dream for. We want to be the most credible, reliable source for finding ski resorts that match you perfectly.
We want you to think Ratoong the second your mind starts wondering to your next ski trip and we want you to get those epic lines, throw that perfect trick and smile in the snow all day long.
We need your help though – in these early days as we start to become established we NEED you to rate. Without your rating, some jerry out there is rating the ski resorts based on his time. Thinking blues are the hardest thing he’s ever skied and drinking beer that’s not worth the effort made to brew it. We need the skiers that have skied big mountain, and knows what off piste means to rate our parameters. We need the Mom with 6 kids that have social anxieties and temper tantrums to rate the ski schools. We need the boarder that just landed a double mctwist 1260 to rate the snow park. We need the riders that chase the snow and live for it to set the standard for other riders. So in short we need ratings from you all – young, old, boy, girl, man, women, beginners, families, party freaks, super serious free riders. Yes from you ALL!
So do us the biggest favour, don’t look at our ratings and find something you disagree with and lose faith in us.. Rate your favourite and least favourite resorts as accurately and harshly as you so feel (don’t worry it is all anonymous) and help us to have such a wisdom of the crowds that the facts we throw out from our ratings will be just that.. Facts.
Now… as the south pacific hits one of their hottest summers, yet Hotham is still being dumped with snow, we’re looking back at the season! We’re happy to say we have worked hard to get some outreach to the south pacific and got more ratings this year than ever before and came out with some stats we are happy to write about.
TOP SKI SCHOOLS IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE
BASED ON RATOONG RATINGS
New Zealand’s South Island alpine resort has found their way up the ratings to one of the top spots when looking at ski resorts ski schools. We got the chance to engage with Jen Houltham, Cardrona’s communications executive and she informed us of Cardrona’s focus on their ski school with over 200 instructors a year each trained with formal qualifications and special kids teacher training. The resorts sets a good base for learning with 1 main beginner area, and 5 “green” easy runs throughout the resort. Cardrona is a natural choice for families with a wide range of progressive terrain and facilities catering for kids as young as 3 months old. A covered learner conveyor on the beginner hill keeps you sheltered from the elements and the McDougall’s Gondola takes the stress off riding your first lift, your first day on snow has never been easier. They also have a range of food options, childcare for all ages, and special first timer lesson products. The first time lessons are for ALL AGES, therefore scoring Cardrona high with the adult lessons as well, and affordable lessons at that! First time skier big and small can enjoy Cardrona Ski Resort for their first day out on the slopes.
Treble Cone is a the largest ski resort on New Zealand’s south island, famous for long, uncrowded runs unrivalled views over Lake Wanaka and the Southern Alps and Ratoong raters have deemed it to having amazing ski school. Treble Cone’s learner area is located alongside the comforts of the Base lodge and café with the convenience of a fully kitted ski and snowboard rental shop. You are presented with specialized classes for adult groups, kids groups and private lessons to ensure all riders are accounted for. A great feature of their ski school is the fact that they have a maximum of 5 kids per lesson to maintain individual attention to each child and there is a list of instructors on their website so you can get to know the instructors before you even get to the slopes! There are two other “green” easy runs on the mountain for riders that want to experience their first chair lift as well as large mountain run! Treble Cone Ski Resort is great option for new skiers and families!
Hotham is wonderfully located in the Victorian Alps of the Great Dividing Range in Australia. Based on Ratoong ratings this has become a favourite for parents alike as their kids ski school shines above many others in the southern hemisphere. We asked the resort to tell us what their kids ski school has to offer and Amanda Brown, the Kids Ski & Ride Director, enlightened us and other parents on what makes this ski school a favourite. Hotham breaks up their ski school into children ages 3-5, and those age 6 – 14 with 85 instructors per season, trained thoroughly on safety and instructor skills. Kids lessons are broken down into full day and half day lessons to meet the needs of each family. Aspects that we believe make their program shine is the snack and rest breaks and a designated kids area to keep those learning minds happy and safe throughout the day. Another factor is the ongoing kids entertainment with a Harry the dragon stage show every wednesday and saturday and LEGO days in the evenings creating a perfect atmosphere if you have little ones to ensure they’ll have a great time learning how to ski or ride at Hotham Ski Resort.
